What is community and
systemic advocacy?
We
consider this to be our community
development and law reform work.

At the legal clinic, our community
development mandate includes the following activities:
-
outreach
-
developing and distributing
legal education materials
-
providing speakers to groups and
classes
-
organizing workshops and
conferences
-
popular education
-
networking and building strong
relationships with community organizations
-
community development and
capacity-building
-
community organizing
Please visit our Community
Development page to learn more about our current projects.

Our law reform mandate also includes a
broad range of activities as follows:
-
creating awareness about the
need for law reform and systemic injustice
-
working with groups on law
reform projects
-
meeting and working with
government departments to improve their service
delivery to poor and disadvantaged groups
-
writing to and meeting with
politicians at the municipal, provincial and
federal levels of government
-
linking our clients and
community to law reform initiatives in other communities
-
preparing briefs and submissions
to government bodies
-
appellate work and test case
litigation
We advocate for
positive changes to laws affecting people living
on a low income in our community. Please
go to
our Law Reform page for links on current law reform projects that our clinic as well
as others are currently involved in and to see what you can do
to help.
