Are there other sources of free legal help?                         Where Else To Go For Help

Where else can I go for help when I think I've been treated unfairly?

What about emergencies or special needs?

Where else can I turn if the system is unfair?

See our LINKS page for links to other sources of help, by topic.

Lawyers

Although legal clinic staff cannot provide advice or assistance in every area of law or for every type of legal problem, we try very hard to refer you to someone or some service that can help you.  This section of our website is designed to give you some ideas of where else you can go for help.  You can also check back to our Legal Information page for more information about referrals or links to other websites or materials.  And then there is always CLEONet which offers a wealth of information at just the click of your mouse.

For example, the local Area Offices of Legal Aid Ontario, can link you to some forms of legal help in areas we don't practice like family and criminal law. The Advice Clinics they offer can also help with answer questions about consumer and contract law, being in debt, some employment matters, Small Claims court in addition to family and criminal law issues.

Also, we have put together a Where Else to Go For Help chart (PDF) which gives referrals to other sources of help for a variety of matters.

Check out our LINKS page for many other sources of help on a variety of issues.

Also, there are quite of number of other places you can go to make complaints about unfair or unjust treatment or other problems, like the provincial Ombudsman's office for complaints about provincial government offices or practices for example. Later in 2006, we hope to be able to include even more information about where you can go for help.  In the meantime, you'll find local MP or MPP's constituency office staff of great assistance also (visit Elections Ontario to find your electoral district).

Our clinic staff are very sensitive to the problems created by threatened eviction and homelessness, domestic violence, and the special needs of our clients who have disabilities. By clicking on each of these issues, you will find information we hope you will find helpful.

In addition to providing referrals for individual clients, clinic staff are also involved in a number of projects trying to help solve problems at a "systems level" - an approach we sometimes call "beyond bandaids". You can find out more about this by clicking on the "advocacy" button in the left margin of this page.
