Power of Attorney and Living Wills

The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee has produced a Power of Attorney Kit that will help you appoint the person you want to make decisions for you when you are no longer able to do so for yourself. Visit their website for information on how to request a kit by mail or to download one from their site.  On the download page you can also view/download a 19-page document of questions and answers about powers of attorney and living wills.

Wills and Estates

Visit the Ministry of the Attorney General's "Frequently Asked Questions About Estates" page for information on how to file an application for letters probate (now called a certificate of appointment of estate trustee with a will) and other estate questions.

Another source of information on wills and estates is the Ministry of Attorney General's Justice Ontario site (www.ontario.ca/justiceontario) or call their toll free number at 1-866-252-0104 for help in over 170 languages.
