This page is for referrals to other sources of information and assistance for non-legal problems common to those living on a low income that we ourselves cannot help with but others can.

Volunteer & Information Quinte (VIQ)

Volunteer & Information Quinte (VIQ) is the volunteer bureau and the information & referral centre for Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. They are a community-based resource centre linking volunteers with volunteer positions, and providing information, referrals, consultations and training to individuals, volunteer groups, and agencies.

VIQ also provides a free information hotline. They offer direction to individuals that are seeking services.  They manage a database including over 1,200 different listings of service providers in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, and a database of summer camps across Ontario and local summer programs.  Service is provided during business hours by phone at 613-969-8862 or 24/7 on their website, located at http://quinte.cioc.ca (searchable organization database) or http://quintecamps.cioc.ca/ (searchable summer camp database).

Help for Low Income Homeowners

Low Income Home Energy Efficiency Grant Program - Up to $3,000 available

Ontario Drug Benefit Program and the Trillium Drug Plan

The Ontario Drug Benefit Program (ODB) website outlines who is eligible for drug coverage under their program.  If you are receiving social assistance (the Ontario Works program or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)), you are eligible for ODB coverage.  Forms for the Ontario Drug Benefit Program are also available online from the Ministry's website.

If you are not eligible for drug coverage under the ODB program, you can apply to the Trillium Drug Program. This program helps people who have high drug costs in relation to their income. It has a deductible that is based on income and family size.  You can apply to the Trillium Drug Program if your private insurance does not cover 100% of your prescription drug costs, you have valid Ontario Health Insurance (OHIP) and you are not eligible for drug coverage under the ODB.

For more information, visit their website. Trillium application kits are available at your local pharmacy or by calling the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care INFOline at
1-800-268-1154 or TTY (for the hearing impaired) 1-800-387-5559.
