How to Access Us

at the

Community Advocacy & Legal Centre

At our clinic we strive to meet the needs of all our clients. Deaf clients may reach us in a variety of ways:

  •  Bell Relay Service - Call (via TTY) 711 or 1-800-267-6511
  •  *Email or Text Message our Intake Workers at calcgen3@lao.on.ca 
     (see note below)

Our intake staff can book appointments with Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) interpreters to meet with you and our lawyers for legal advice.  Please note an appointment with an interpreter may take up to 2 weeks.

Canadian Hearing Society

The Canadian Hearing Society provides services that enhance the independence of deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people, and that encourage prevention of hearing loss. They have an area office in Belleville and a regional office in Kingston.  Visit this links page for even more links.

 

Ontario Association of the Deaf - Jennifer Jackson, Executive Director

Their mandate is to "Provide leadership, resources and activities that promote and protect rights, equality and access of Deaf Ontarians."

 

Canadian Association for the Deaf

Founded in 1940 by the three regional associations of the Deaf, the CAD is the national consumer organization of Canada’s 300,000 Deaf citizens. 

 

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) is a consumer-based organization formed by and for hard of hearing Canadians. CHHA works cooperatively with professionals, service providers and government bodies, and provides information about hard of hearing issues and solutions. CHHA is Canada's only nation-wide non-profit consumer organization run by and for hard of hearing people.

 

Silent Voice Canada

Silent Voice Canada serves deaf children, deaf youth and deaf adults, as well as their families in a sign language environment. We are dedicated to improving communication and relationships between deaf and hearing in families and in our community. Silent Voice is an agency grounded in Catholic values offering services to the whole community.

 

Hearing Ear Dogs of Canada

Lions Foundation of Canada operates Dog Guides Canada.  Hearing Ear Dogs alert people who are hard of hearing to important sounds and bring an independence and new confidence to their silent lives. Visit their site to see how you can get a hearing ear dog at no cost.  They have an online application form.

Abuse Against Deaf Women

 

Ontario Women's Justice Network

An online legal resource for women's organizations and individuals working on issues related to justice and violence against women and children. 

 

Visit their Violence Against Women with Disabilities and Deaf Women:  Myths and Realities Game page. This Myths & Realities Game is an educational activity prepared by the Provincial Advisory Committee on Violence against Women with Disabilities and Deaf Women in preparation for METRAC/OWJN's provincial trainings on Legal Issues for Women with Disabilities and Deaf Women Experiencing Violence.

 

Springtide Resources

Springtide Resources promotes healthy and equal relationships by engaging diverse communities in shared educational strategies designed to prevent violence against women and the effect it has on children.  See their section entitled Tips for Service Providers Working with Women with Disabilities/Deaf Women.

 

Education Wife Assault

Their mission is to inform and educate the community about the issue of wife assault/woman abuse in order to decrease the incidence of physical, psychological, emotional and sexual violence against women and the effect that woman abuse has on children.  Their Deaf and Disability page has tips for services providers.
